One Small Seed Newsletter – Edition #228, February 2020
This month, I would like to present some thought-provoking questions on divine truth—questions that may stir up your pure mind by way of remembrance, as Saint Peter encouraged us to do. Though you likely already know the answers, revisiting these truths can help reinforce our understanding of God’s sovereignty, the power of His name, and the choices we make in response to His calling.
Divine Truth #1: The Power in the Name of Jesus
Did you know that every attribute of God is incorporated in the name of Jesus? Since that is so, every atom of creation is incorporated in that name (John 1:1-3). Every drop of Righteousness, Hope, Peace, Mercy, Grace, Truth, and Love are found in that name. At the heart of that name dwells the eternal presence of a Holy God, radiating His glory, willing to share, to give, and to fill with all goodness to whosoever will.
From that name shines the brightest light, filled with all knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. A light that removes all shadows and hiding places—even in the deepest recesses of hell. This light holds power over all the darkness of this world, including the demons that torment us, the enemies we wrestle with, and even the turmoil within our own minds. This light can make us free.
Divine Truth #2: Man’s Call to Worship
Did you know that even in the beginning, man began to call upon the name of the Lord (Genesis 4:26)? From that, I believe God instilled in man the propensity to serve Him. Yet, despite this inclination, humanity has often strayed. Man, in his rebellion, used his own imagination to create his own belief system, resulting in the vast number of religions and denominations we see today.
Did you know that man was made in the image of God? One feature of “image” deals with the brain. God gifted man with the ability to think, process, reason, and judge. This incredible gift allows us to be creative and logical, to reflect on what we have learned, and to make choices. But God also gave us the ultimate freedom—the ability to choose whom we will serve (Joshua 24:15).
Divine Truth #3: The Blessing and Boundaries of Freedom
Choice is a blessing of being free, but freedom is only a blessing in a positive atmosphere. Some believe freedom means doing anything they want, but this is a negative and misguided view. Here in the U.S., we live in a constitutional republic, where we enjoy freedoms that many in the world do not. Yet, even in our freedom, laws regulate our actions.
Laws are like the lines on a road—they keep us in our lane and prevent destruction. While we have freedom to move within those boundaries, straying too far leads to consequences. If we ignore the rules, we risk crashing or falling into ruin.
The Founding Fathers established our Constitution on positive freedoms, drawing influence from Judeo-Christian ethics. Even during its drafting, some hesitated to sign until they secured certain concessions. Today, however, the negatives of this world seek to dismantle the positives, leading to a decline in moral and spiritual stability. While freedom exists, so do consequences—what we choose determines the outcome.
On Divine Truths: The Better Way in Christ
Did you know that God has provided a better way? It is a positive way that liberates the spirit, soul, and mind, enabling us to endure the trials of a world tainted by negativity. The name of Jesus is our escape. It is the Spirit of that name that walks beside us, abides within us, and seeks to guide us—if we choose to follow Him.
God is the most positive reality anyone could ponder. His way is not just a path—it is the way. Through Jesus, we find truth, light, and the ultimate freedom that no earthly system can offer. The question remains: Will you choose to walk in it?
Your Friend in Christ,
Rodney Roberts
Psalms 1:1-3 KJV Blessed is the man (person) that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and what-so-ever he doeth shall prosper.
