Weaving the Golden Thread of Faith
Greetings friends,
I send greetings in the name that is holy and divine: Jesus Christ. In Genesis twenty-two (22) verse one (1), it begins with: “And it came to pass,” and I would like to introduce the subject of faith as the golden thread that holds eternal significance in our lives. There is a clear difference between things that “come to pass” and things that are eternal. Everything that happened in Abraham’s life “came to pass,” yet it is how he approached life and responded to those moments that mattered for eternity. For us, the golden thread that leads to victory is our total surrender to the perfect will of God. This golden thread is called faith. Without it, we cannot please God or even see Him. Rest assured, if we live by faith, God will test and refine our faith.
Testing of the Golden Thread
We are dealing with the life of faith as expressed and exemplified in the story of Abraham. The idea is that faith not only gets stronger through life’s tests but also grows wiser. This is why scriptures encourage us to call on the Elders of the Church—not only those formally appointed but also those around us who have lived lives of proven faith. Life itself should make us wise, yet it is still the work of the Holy Spirit, as Jesus said, “He will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13).
Faith is most often tested when unexpected events create anxiety or fear. Doubt and hesitation can arise, yet God calls us to trust and obey. When God commanded Abraham, “Take now thy son and get thee into the Land of Moriah…,” Abraham rose early in the morning and went to the place God showed him. His example teaches us to prepare our hearts now, so we know what to do when our faith is tested. Notice how Abraham never hesitated—he displayed no fear and asked no questions.
This refining process draws us closer to God and prepares us to trust Him fully, just as Abraham did in his moment of testing.
Trust in The Eternal Thread of Provision
This is what God wanted to prove in Abraham: that faith in Him outweighs all worldly attachments, even the most precious ones. After years of waiting for God’s promise of a son, Abraham was willing to sacrifice that son in obedience to God. In our own lives, we spend years gathering possessions and building security, yet we must learn that these things too will pass. True security is found in God alone. He is our provider! We should trust in Him with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding. We need to weave our life with the golden thread of faith because it connects us to what is eternal. Life’s tests are necessary for spiritual growth because trials shape and strengthen faith.
The Thread of Faith Affirmed
The Apostle Paul highlights the beauty of this lesson in Romans 4:20-25:
“He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; and being fully persuaded that what He had promised, He was able to perform. And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him: but for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; who was delivered for our offenses, and was raised for our justification.” KJV
Jesus also said in Matthew 5:11-12,
“Blessed are ye when men shall revile you and persecute you… Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven.”
Holding Fast to the Golden Thread
Abraham’s life teaches us that true faith is more than belief—it is obedience, surrender, and trust in God’s promises. His story models to embrace life’s tests with courage, knowing that each challenge refines and strengthens us.
As we face the passing challenges of life, we must hold fast to the golden thread of faith. Trust that God’s promises are eternal, and His provision is perfect. Weave our lives with this thread and walk confidently into His purposes, knowing He will never fail us.
God bless. Your friend in Christ,
Rodney Roberts
