Greetings in the name of Jesus,
The reason is more than a day of the year to celebrate. This day is a day that should awaken the minds of people to the fact that God is still on the throne and is very alive, alert, and aware of our state of affairs. It is a day that we should remember, that every breath we breath is a gift of life from him. It is a day for counting our blessings and not the value of the gifts that are given to us or the ones we give to someone. It is a day that we can duplicate everyday (24/7) in our hearts and minds.
Jesus, and all his attributes of love, is the reason of the season. The Bible says that God is the Father of Lights (James 1:17), and Jesus said that he is the light of the world (John 8:12). One aspect of the word light is on the spirit side, which is how a Christian should view it. Light in this verse means he is the one that illuminated minds to the truth. This is why John said that, “in the beginning was the word”, because it was the word of God that brought natural light into existence along with all the other things that he created. Notice what the first thing God did, after He had created the heavens and the earth, in Genesis 1:3: “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light”. At this moment in time there were two spiritual lessons given unto us and it is the foundation of our spiritual responsibility. The Apostle Paul reminded us of these two things in Colossians 3:17, “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus giving thanks to God and the Father by him”.
Do you think it’s strange that the principles of Christianity are built upon the first three verses of a book that was written several thousand years ago? I don’t; I think it is amazing. God had us in mind whenever he began the creation process, because the Apostle Paul said in Romans 8:28-29 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them that are called according to this purpose, for whom he did foreknow, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son”. When God created the heaven and the earth he was doing a deed; a righteous deed that is also built upon his love for everything that was done after the first two verses. The next verse was the expression of mind and will, to satisfy his many attributes and power. He spoke the truth which was what the Apostle Paul was telling us to do in Colossians 3:17, and he fulfilled his obligation to his qualification.
Another lesson to be learned is in what was said in the last sentence: “He fulfilled his obligation to his qualification”. Everyone born into the world has a talent for something. These talents are divided into two parts: speaking or working with their hands, which is “word or deed”. When God’s spirit comes into a person: spirit, soul, and mind, the talents should be dedicated to the Lord and used for his service. Then these talents are turned into gifts, that we turn into his service and share with our neighbor (those who are nigh to us). When God predestined the human soul to conform to the image of his Son, he also gave them the instruments that they needed to perform and fulfill their obligation. Besides the Law for the human mind, he gave them the guidance for the spirit and soul. In a natural environment the whole person could enjoy the privileges of nature and the spirit and soul could bring pleasure to God. This was the reason for the coming of Christ to the earth and the reason for the season.
Remember, everything is with us “now”. We can enjoy the privileges of His Kingdom now; his guidance, his blessings, his presence, and his love is available to us “now”. There can be peace, love, and joy in our hearts “now”, and if the rest of the world would accept that, there could be peace on earth good will to men “now”. This is the salvation he came to give us, but we must accept it as a precious gift in order to appreciate it.
I pray that your celebration of our Savior’s birth brings peace, love, and joy to you and all that you associate with this year and it carries on into the following year. God bless.
Your friend in Christ,
Rodney Roberts
