One Small Seed Newsletter – Edition #229, March 2020
My wish for you today is that you are well and experience the same blessings that I do. I appreciate my older friends who remind me that I am still young. A kind lady once told me that God blesses me by inspiring me—not only to share my poems and writings but also to reflect the theology within them. I am grateful that God truly cares, extending His grace and wisdom to me. Through His blessings, I have the opportunity to share the absolute truth in God’s Word, even if only one seed at a time. My blessings are beyond measure, but I cherish and appreciate each one.
One of the things in life that I appreciate is the fact that there are “truths” that we can depend on. I am blessed by God to recognize this, and I count it a privilege to know this. There is a certain amount of truth in most opinions, but truth in itself is absolute. How do I know? Some may say that this is my opinion, and I agree that I do have opinions, but some things I don’t dream up—I read them from the Word of God.
The Foundation of Absolute Truth in God’s Word
By reading the Word of God, I have broadened my perspective on theology and consequently narrowed my focus to those things that are from God, whom I believe is the foundation of truth. Because of my focus, I have established a trust in Him and a greater faith in His abilities and His love. In response to what I have learned, I do my best to pay attention to what Truth says to me. In respect to the living Word, I share my one small seed.
Since the format of this paper limits me to a certain number of words, I will continue in a different direction with my thoughts. If God is the foundation of truth, then everything in our life should be focused on Him. When He is the focus, everything else should lie within the peripheral of that focus. When He is the focus, everything in that peripheral will incorporate at least a small amount of that focus all the time. This is considered the perfect will of God. If we live within this framework, our opinions will be more honest, truthful, and more credible.
Distinguishing Between Facts and Absolute Truth in God’s Word
The solidity of truth is that it is surrounded by facts. When defining words, there are words that have similar meanings, like a parable and the message of a parable. In this case, the parable has a lesser role than the message of the parable. When comparing truths to facts, truth is the higher subject and fact is the lower subject. If we make this division, many disputes fade since facts change, but the absolute truth in God’s Word is immutable.
As we grow and mature, we realize at times that we have been putting facts in the place of truth. Thank God for His grace, we can change our opinion without shame or embarrassment. Only the Word or Spirit of God can impact our natural mind and bring change when faced with true righteousness. Any other source is mere opinion. Each person believes their own opinion is just as important as anyone else’s.
Learning from Christ: The Source of Truth
For a while, I will focus my next studies on the words of Christ that He taught to His disciples and apostles. He is our “Teacher,” and what He says is truth to all of us. If we learn from Him, we can say, “Thus saith the Lord—I have no opinion.” God bless.
Your friend in Christ,
